Renee Jung-Kennedy • Cassidy Elementary, Art “I believe that my role as a visual arts teacher is to bring out that innate artistic giftedness that exists in all children. I also believe that artistic ability may be learned, developed and refined over time. While not everyone has the ability to become a Picasso or an O'Keefe, everyone can certainly learn to appreciate many fundamental dimensions of the Fine Arts. That's how I see my role as an arts teacher.” |

“As a kindergarten and first grade teacher, I am able to build relationships with students and instill in them a love of learning very early in life. When they leave my classroom I want them to be filled not only with the book knowledge that will make them successful in school, but also with the personal knowledge that will help them to be successful in life. I want each of my students to understand and realize their full potential. I want them to know that they have continuous support from both home and school, and that if they are willing to work for it, I will help them achieve their goal. I try to instill in them the general philosophy that hard work, respect and determination will always lead to success.” |

Nancy Underwood • Southern Elementary, Grade 4 “A good education is the greatest gift we ever receive. It is a gift that the more it's utilized, the more valuable it becomes. A well-rounded education ensures brighter and more positive futures. As a teacher, the challenge of adding another layer of knowledge to that gift is one I relish. I love to see the looks of amazement on my kids' faces at the end of the academic year, as we reflect upon their growth during the past nine months. Knowing their futures are more hopeful is one of the greatest gifts of being a teacher.” |

“All children love to move. My job as a physical education teacher is to make 'moving' fun so that children establish healthy lifestyle habits.” |
